We are pleased to share news of a class-action lawsuit filed against United Healthcare (UHC), in a New Jersey federal court, concerning its ongoing denial of reimbursement for co-surgeons (CO) and assistant surgeons (AS) when performing a DIEP Flap reconstructive procedure for breast cancer patients, following a mastectomy.
For several years, our firm has challenged UHC on this policy. Despite UHC’s own internal policies regarding reimbursement, the medical community agreeing that UHC’s position was not supported by industry standards, and other major payors reimbursing for CO and AS when billing with the S code, UHC has refused to change its policy.
The suit received coverage by a number of media outlets including Modern Healthcare, Bloomberg, and Law.com. For more information, please see the complaint filed.
